MEDICAL CANNABIS
The plant Cannabis sativa produces over 421 chemical compounds. Delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, is the main active ingredient in the plant. It works by binding together receptors in the body, like a lock and key, to produce effects that can be useful for treating a variety of medical conditions. It has been known to relieve pain, stimulate appetite, reduce nausea, and suppress muscle spasms. Medicated edibles are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to smoking. Smoking cannabis is difficult to justify medically because the amount of THC ingested in this manner is not always consistent. Moreover, the negative effects of smoke on the lungs will offset the benefits for some patients.
